MRC Grant
This month, the School of Medicine, University of Wales Swansea builds on its successes in research and education. In research, Dr. Gerry Thomas has received a prestigious grant worth over £75,000 from the Medical Research Council (MRC) of UK for research on the influence of genetic variation in DNA repair pathways on cancer risk following exposure to ionising radiation. This is a great achievement not only because receiving an MRC grant is a matter of peer esteem, but also because it speaks volumes of the high quality of work being done at the School, which can stand up to strong competition and the rigour of scrutiny.
